I first learned about Spellingbee competition in a college entrance course.
In the first few rounds of the preliminary round, I was selected into the team for the final match against China and the United States, which was probably due to luck. After the euphoria, there was a lot of pressure. After a long preparation, the day of the game finally arrived. Here, the competition has long been called “the match between China and the United States.”It goes without saying that Cambridge has never won China or the US since the tournament began. With such a heavy burden on our shoulders, we stepped onto the stage with nervous and mixed feelings. This is a grade credibility game, we want to do our best, not the best. In the short but long one hour, Cambridge students, who were behind by 40 points, did not give up and turned the tide in adversity. Finally, they surpassed China and the United States by more than 200 points and won the first champion of Cambridge class since the beginning of the competition.
I’ve had my first one, but this one is different. The audience from the original full of expectations, to bow the head sigh, and from the hope to see the final back to exceed the score of cheering caper. After this match, I deeply realized the importance of teamwork and the necessity of preparation before the match. Then there is the power of confidence. As the motto of Harvard says, “Every great miracle begins with the power of faith.”In the sea of life, there is no ship without injury!
In addition, as an upperclassman, I would also like to give some advice on English word learning to the next class of junior students:
First of all, if you want to memorize words well, the foundation is the priority. The moment you choose the International Department, you need to realize that your vocabulary will be three times or more than that of your classmates in the general high school. Therefore, daily accumulation is very important. Words can not deliberately recite, to find more in life, more practice. Personally, I can say that 3 to 40 percent of my vocabulary comes from American TV series, movies and music. Therefore, taking a look after learning can not only relieve the pressure of study, but also greatly enhance the vocabulary and language sense. Won’t you kill two birds with one stone? It will also be easier to prepare.
“Gentleman nature is not different also, good at fake in the material also”.In the process of preparing for war, the mastery of tools is also indispensable. Take the electronic dictionary and paper dictionary with you. Different dictionaries have different advantages, so we should learn to learn from each other. Of course, you can also make cards to help you remember. In short, find the method that you are used to and maximize your efficiency.
Is there any shortcut to memorize words?Don’t tell me, there is. Before learning a new word, you need to know not only how it sounds and what it means, but also where it came from. Most English words have a fixed root. With the help of a dictionary, combined with habits, proper memory, and accumulated some common prefix and suffix, you can do well in the competition. In addition to this, you need to be able to synthesize words and look for connections between similar words. You will gain a lot.
Finally, there is the age-old question of pre-match psychology. As long as there is a game, there will always be a winner or a loser. It is very important to have a reasonable goal and a complete plan, which is also the basis of having a relaxed and open-minded attitude. Nervousness will be your worst enemy. How many people prepare very well before the race, but at the end because of nervousness, the brain blank, and finally missed the victory?Don’t pay too much attention to his opinions and comments. Be yourself and be more confident. Because nothing is “impossible” to a confident person.
I hope our BKING spirit will continue to be passed on to the next class of Cambridge students, and continue to create brilliance for the Cambridge class!
